There is a myth going viral on the internet about a message from God NASA found in a cave on Mars. A few people have asked us about these postings and the purported huge stone tablets with a message from god. I thought we would help restore some sanity. While KnowledgeOrb is not a place to vet urban legends it might be good (and somewhat amusing) to respond to this one. The postings go something like this:
“NASA announced today that its Curiosity Rover has found an unambiguous message from God written on tablets in a Martian cave.According to an official press release two giant stone slabs the size of small elephants were located deep inside a cavern abutting Aeolis Mons, a large mountain…..”
You can Google these postings yourself to find them and the thousands of people who are responding and seem to think they are true, but they are not. This posting was put on the internet as a joke and somehow those who want to believe have chosen to take it as fact. The fact is there is no such press release from NASA (I read them every day). If there were it would be a major story and believe it or not NASA would, as the story seems to say, make this information public immediately. Sorry conspiracy theorists NASA is not hiding anything.
These reports site a supposed NASA press release but none of them link to this release (most likely because it does not exist). It is amazing to see how many people praise the god of their choice, with nothing more than a made up story on the internet. They want so badly to believe they will take the smallest nugget of semi truth and then assume everything else is fact related to the story. The people who are even more sad are the ones who post these moronic stories. They may be trying to further the joke, but many also are trying to propagate the story as truth. Ultimately they only serve to lessen the faith of those who will in the end find out this is not true.
Wish it was a true story, it would be the biggest story ever for NASA and maybe even mankind. It is a total fake and just another Urban Legend. Remember the rule, if it seems to good to be true it probably is.
